Synopsis
Frank is a schoolgirl who is cornered in a park by older bullies while she searches for her missing cat, Quintilius Minimus. She is rescued by Nick Underbridge, a classmate whom the others tease for being smelly and flea-ridden. Over the summer holidays the two become friends, painting together and playing Swingball. At Nick's house Frank hears strange music that makes her feel happy and good about herself, and she wants to hear it all the time. She soon learns that there is more to Nick and his house than meets the eye: both children are keeping secrets, and two worlds are closer together than they seem. The story is told over five days, and Frank must decide what to do with what Nick shows her.
