Synopsis
Concluding the Defenders of Shannara trilogy, the novel follows Paxon Leah, protector of the Druid order, as he leads a group of wrongfully accused companions to safety after a demon attack at a peace summit leaves them framed for murder. Paxon's old nemesis, the sorcerer Arcannen Rai, seeks to seize control of the powerful magic possessed by Paxon's sister, Chrysallin, but finds unexpected opposition from his own estranged daughter, Leofur, who happens to be Paxon's devoted partner and sets out on a perilous quest to thwart her father's designs. As Arcannen turns to his darkest magical skills to pursue his aims, Paxon and his companions must evade both governmental authorities and monstrous pursuers across a dangerous wilderness, contending with prejudice against the Druid order and the fractures within Arcannen's own family along the way.
