Synopsis

The Spellshop opens the duology with Kiela, a reclusive librarian who has spent eleven years at the Great Library of Alyssium alongside her magically animated, sentient spider plant assistant Caz, quietly protecting rare spellbooks reserved for the empire's elite. When a revolution erupts and burns the library to the ground, Kiela flees the capital with Caz and an armful of salvaged spellbooks, returning to the remote island where she grew up. She finds her childhood home standing but the island town itself drained of magical power and struggling, and as she works to rebuild a life there she fends off the attentions of a persistent, handsome neighbor while trying to make ends meet.
