Synopsis
The Spellsong War continues Anna Marshall's story in Erde, following her efforts to consolidate her position as a sorceress and ruler after the events of the first novel, as neighboring lords and rival powers, wary of an outsider wielding such unprecedented spellsong ability, move against her. Anna must draw on her growing mastery of Erde's music-based magic to defend her territory and the people now under her protection, balancing the exacting physical toll spellsinging takes on her against the mounting military and political threats arrayed against her rule. The novel deepens the series' portrayal of Erde's magic system and its costs, following Anna as she is forced from consolidating power into open conflict with those unwilling to accept her authority.
