Synopsis
A short prequel story set eleven years before Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater were framed for a king's murder, when the two were still near-strangers learning to work as partners. In it, Royce sets out to teach his idealistic new associate a pointed lesson about doing good deeds. It was later folded into The Rose and the Thorn as a chapter.
