Synopsis

In Dhamsawaat, capital of the Crescent Moon Kingdoms, Doctor Adoulla Makhslood, past sixty, fat and tired, is the last real ghul hunter, and would rather be drinking cardamom tea than chasing monsters. The city is near boiling point, caught between the iron rule of the Khalif and the master thief called the Falcon Prince, whose rebellion is gathering in the streets. When a series of brutal supernatural killings begins, Adoulla and his assistant Raseed bas Raseed, a young dervish whose swordsmanship is matched only by his piety, ride out to the marshes to investigate, and find magic darker than any ghul they have faced. They are joined by Zamia Banu Laith Badawi, a young tribeswoman who can take the shape of a lioness and whose whole band was slaughtered by the same power. Together the three must trace the killings to their source before the Kingdoms drown in blood.
