Synopsis
Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, published in 1871 as the second Alice book, follows Alice on a snowy November night as she passes through a large mirror in her home and enters a reflected world where logic runs backward, so that running keeps her in place and walking away brings her closer to where she wants to be. She discovers this realm is arranged like a giant chessboard, and that she must cross its squares, each separated by a brook, in order to reach the eighth rank and become a queen, encountering a colorful cast of living chess pieces and nursery-rhyme figures along the way.
