Synopsis

Tristan Strong Keeps Punching concludes the trilogy with Tristan back on his grandparents' Alabama farm, training as a boxer and staying in contact with the trickster god Anansi, while unsettling messages warn him of a menacing figure known as the Shamble Man. When his grandmother, Nana, is taken by monstrous forces tied to this new threat, Tristan draws on his growing command of story and language to return to Alke, reuniting with his friend Ayanna and meeting new figures such as the legendary riverboat captain Keelboat Annie. Traveling up a version of the Mississippi River woven through West African and African American mythology, Tristan pursues the Shamble Man and Nana's captors, facing spirits and obstacles determined to keep him from reaching his grandmother and completing his journey home to Chicago.
