Synopsis

The thirtieth book of The Legend of the Ice People, published in Swedish as Människadjuret and in English as The Brothers. The twins Marco and Ulvar could not be more different: Marco is as beautiful as a god, while Ulvar is more grotesque than the worst of beasts. The Ice People know that each of the two has been chosen for a task of his own in the clan's long struggle against Tengel the Evil, the forefather who sold his soul to the devil and left his descendants a curse, but no one can understand how anything good could ever come of Ulvar, who seems as full of evil as the devil himself.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Legend of the Ice People): The original 47-volume saga (1982-1989) following the cursed Ice People clan across generations of Scandinavian history, marked by inherited supernatural gifts, a medallion-bound curse, and (in its later volumes) an underground kingdom where time itself runs differently. Two later continuations exist (a further ~35 volumes across two more parts, published years afterward) and are not yet catalogued here pending closer genre review.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
