Synopsis
War for the Oaks, published in 1987, follows Eddi McCandry, a rock musician in Minneapolis who is in the process of leaving her band and starting a new one when she finds herself pursued through the city streets by a shapeshifting faerie known as a phouka, who appears alternately as a man and a black dog. The phouka conscripts her, against her will, into an unfolding conflict between the noble Seelie Court and the sinister Unseelie Court, ruled by the Queen of Air and Darkness, informing her that she has become a linchpin whose presence is now required at the boundary between the two courts.
