Synopsis
Presented as the fifth chapter in David Farland's new prequel saga of the Runelords, this story follows Dval, the Inkarran protagonist introduced in the saga's earlier installments, as he continues to grapple with the consequences of his rise to power. When Dval realizes that his king will still not grant him the respect and honor he has earned despite his earlier sacrifices and victories, he comes to a turning point: rather than continue seeking recognition from a ruler unwilling to give it, he decides to take the fate of the world into his own hands. The story builds on the earlier tales' groundwork of Dval's conflicts with the Toth and Mad King Harrill, pushing his personal ambitions and grievances toward a larger confrontation that will shape the wider world of this earlier Runelords era.
