Concepts

• Falling through the cracks other
  The novel's central social/magical premise: anyone who helps a London Below resident, or is otherwise drawn into London Below, gradually becomes invisible to and forgotten by London Above -- a "no one", unseen by former friends, family, employers and strangers alike. Richard's own transformation over the novel's opening chapters is the reader's introduction to the concept.
• Opening magic_system
  An inherited magical talent, held by the House of the Arch, to open any locked, barred or otherwise closed way -- doors, lids, minds, even conceptual barriers -- by will alone. Door is its only confirmed living practitioner in the Core Canon text; the Angel Islington's entire plot depends on acquiring an Opener capable of using a real key.
• The key to the door to Heaven object_artifact
  A silver key held by the Black Friars, sought by the Angel Islington as the means to force his own return from exile; the Black Friars administer an Ordeal to test whoever seeks it. Door ultimately uses a counterfeit copy against Islington rather than the genuine key.
