Christopher Paul Colfer is an American actor, singer and author, born on May 27, 1990, in Clovis, California. He became internationally known for playing Kurt Hummel on the Fox musical series Glee from 2009 to 2015, a role created for him after he auditioned for a different part, and it earned him the 2011 Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a television series as well as two Emmy nominations. His first novel, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, was published by Little, Brown in July 2012, when he was twenty-two; it spent five weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, two of them at number one. Colfer went on to write five more Land of Stories novels through 2017, narrating the audiobooks himself, along with a set of illustrated companion books set in the same fairy-tale world. In 2019 he began a prequel series, A Tale of Magic..., about the childhood of the Fairy Godmother; he has described its persecution of magical people as an allegory for growing up gay, and the first volume debuted at number one on the New York Times middle-grade list. His other books include Struck by Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal, based on his own screenplay, and Stranger Than Fanfiction. Film rights to The Land of Stories were acquired by Warner Bros. in 2025.
