D. M. (David) Cornish is an Australian illustrator and fantasy writer, born in 1972 in Adelaide, South Australia, where he still lives. He saw the first Star Wars film at the age of five and began drawing, a passion that never left him, and he studied at the University of South Australia. His debut, the Monster Blood Tattoo trilogy, Foundling (2006), Lamplighter and Factotum, illustrated by the author and set in the Half-Continent, was published in Australia by Omnibus Books, an imprint of Scholastic, after a large deal across six territories, and in North America under the title The Foundling's Tale. He returned to the Half-Continent in Tales from the Half-Continent (2014), and also illustrates picture books such as Ready, Steady, Hatch.
