Synopsis
With the alarming increase of monster attacks on the highways of the Half-Continent, the work of the lamplighter is more fraught with danger than ever. Having negotiated the treacherous route to Winstermill, the lamplighters' headquarters, Rossamund Bookchild, the orphaned boy with the girl's name, takes up his new role as a prentice-lighter. But even within the sturdy walls of his new home the littlest lighter is far from safe: threatened by people who are as terrifying as the monsters, and drawn into a web of intrigue when he finds a man-made monster in the bowels of Winstermill, he will need all his wits to survive his training. The second book of the trilogy.
