Daniel Edward Parkinson was born March 19, 1935, in Liberal, Kansas, and died May 10, 2001. He was an American author who produced more than forty books across several genres, including naval fiction, westerns, science fiction, and fantasy. His western novels included The Texians (1980), Slanted Colt (1984), and Thunderland (1987), and he wrote the Patrick Dalton series of naval fiction set during the American War of Independence, comprising The Fox and The Faith (1987), The Fox and The Flag (1990), and two further volumes published in 2000 and 2001; his death left several plot threads in that series unresolved. Within fantasy, Parkinson became a prolific Dragonlance contributor, authoring titles such as The Gates of Thorbardin (1990) and The Gully Dwarves (1996), among many others exploring the world of Krynn. He also wrote the Timecop tie-in trilogy, consisting of The Scavenger, Viper's Spawn, and Blood Ties (1998-1999), demonstrating his range across licensed and original fiction alike.
