Emma Törzs grew up in Massachusetts in a creative household; her mother was a poet who taught creative writing and mythology at a community college, and Törzs has four sisters. She earned a BA in Cultural Studies from Macalester College and an MFA in Fiction from the University of Montana, and now teaches creative writing and fantasy fiction writing at her alma mater, Macalester College, alongside working as a translator. Her debut novel, Ink Blood Sister Scribe (2023), follows two estranged half-sisters tasked with guarding their family's secretive magical library, and achieved significant recognition, becoming a Sunday Times bestseller, a Good Morning America Book Club selection, and a New York Times Notable Book of 2023. Beyond the novel, Törzs has published extensive short fiction in venues including Uncanny Magazine, Lightspeed Magazine, and Strange Horizons, building a reputation for atmospheric, tightly crafted speculative short stories well before her novel debut.
