James P. Davis is an American novelist best known for his contributions to the Forgotten Realms fiction line published by Wizards of the Coast. His debut novel, Bloodwalk (2006), introduced readers to a dark, gothic corner of the Forgotten Realms setting, and he followed it with The Shield of Weeping Ghosts (2008) and The Restless Shore (2009), part of the Wilds series exploring the untamed frontier regions of the Forgotten Realms. His most recent published novel, Circle of Skulls (2010), continued his focus on morally ambiguous protagonists navigating the setting's darker corners. Davis has built a reputation among Forgotten Realms readers for prose that leans into horror and noir influences within the traditional high-fantasy framework of the setting, distinguishing his novels from more conventional adventure-focused Realms fiction of the period. He lives in Shreveport, Louisiana, with his wife and a cat he has described, with characteristic humor, as "crazy." Although detailed biographical information about his early life, education, and career path outside of his published fiction is not extensively documented, his body of work across four novels over roughly four years marks him as one of the notable second-generation Forgotten Realms authors who emerged in the mid-to-late 2000s, expanding the tonal range of the shared-world setting.
