Synopsis

Deep in the heart of the City of Weeping Ghosts is a story no one tells. Over two thousand years ago mighty Shandaular fell, its people slaughtered or scattered, its fabled Shield overwhelmed with unnatural ice; only the witches of Rashemen hold the Shield now, and they know better than to venture out into the cold night. A group of Rashemi warriors escorts an exiled wizard to the ruined citadel, where he discovers that a barbarian tribe is trying to unlock its secrets and the weapon that destroyed it, and the citadel and its ghosts have neither forgotten nor forgiven. The third book of The Citadels, by James P. Davis.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
