Lucy Holland is a British author of fantasy fiction, born in April 1986 and raised in the Thames Valley area of Berkshire, England. She trained early as an actress and dancer at the Redroofs Theatre School in Maidenhead before pursuing academic study, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Royal Holloway, University of London, followed by a Master of Arts degree studying under poet Andrew Motion. Before writing full-time, she spent twelve years working as a bookseller for Waterstones. Writing initially under the name Lucy Hounsom, she published the Worldmaker Trilogy — Starborn (2015), Heartland (2017), and Firestorm (2017) — after her debut novel was discovered by an intern reading through a literary agent's unsolicited submissions and later published by Tor. Writing as Lucy Holland, she published Sistersong (2021), a historical fantasy loosely based on the folk ballad 'The Twa Sisters,' and its follow-up, Song of the Huntress (2024). She also co-hosts the podcast Breaking the Glass Slipper, which discusses gender and diversity in speculative fiction. Starborn was shortlisted for the 2016 David Gemmell Awards for Best Fantasy Debut, Sistersong was a finalist for the Goldsboro Books Glass Bell Award and the British Fantasy Award for Best Novel in 2022, and Breaking the Glass Slipper itself won a British Fantasy Award.
