Patrice Kindl (born 1951 in Alplaus, New York) is an American novelist for young adults. The youngest of four daughters, she grew up in a large Victorian house on a hill, loved animals and read obsessively as a child, and went to college in St. Louis, Missouri, determined to become an actor, before leaving after a year and a half for New York City. Her first novel, Owl in Love (1993), was an ALA Notable Book for Children, an ALA Best Book for Young Adults and an SCBWI Golden Kite Honor Book, and won the 1995 Mythopoeic Award for Children's Literature. It was followed by The Woman in the Wall, Goose Chase, Lost in the Labyrinth, a coming-of-age retelling of the story of Ariadne, Theseus and the Minotaur, and later by Keeping the Castle, A School for Brides and Don't You Trust Me? She lives with her husband and a variety of animals in upstate New York.
