Wim Gijsen (born 20 August 1933 in Zwolle, died 30 October 1990) was a Dutch writer of science fiction and fantasy, and is described as one of the most successful Dutch authors of modern science fiction and fantasy. Before turning to genre fiction he wrote prose, poems and children's books, as well as works on meditation, vegetarianism and yoga, and he translated a book on tarot by Eden Gray. He saw himself as a writer of esoteric novels wrapped in adventure, and his work draws on Buddhist and Hindu ideas. His best-known books are the science-fiction novels De eersten van Rissan (1980) and De koningen van weleer (1981), the Iskander books and the Deirdre trilogy, and the fantasy trilogy about Merisse (1989-1991), the last volume of which Peter Schaap completed after his death.
