Synopsis
A war begins against a taint that spreads like a plague and ignores borders. Soldiers cannot trust their own uniforms, and former enemies have to stand back to back against the common threat. The battle has already started, so there is no time for second thoughts. Unexpected commanders emerge and cavalry improvise, and some characters stake everything on an opponent's pride. Others hold icy slopes against a relentless, pale-eyed danger. The publisher presents the stakes as larger than in any earlier battle of the cycle. The part is largely a war narrative that follows the armies and their commanders.
