Synopsis

A hurricane carries a Kansas girl named Elli and her dog Totoshka into a magical land. To get home, Elli must reach the Emerald City, where the wizard Goodwin is said to grant wishes, and she follows a yellow brick road. On the way she meets a Scarecrow who wants brains, a Tin Woodman who wants a heart and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage, and they travel together through dangers that include the witch Bastinda and her Flying Monkeys. Goodwin proves to be an ordinary man, and Elli learns that her silver shoes can take her home. The 1939 text is a loose adaptation of Baum's Wizard of Oz; the revised 1959 edition departs further from it.
