Synopsis
Set in the Tianshan mountains of Xinjiang in the early Qing period, the novel follows Yang Yuncong, the senior disciple of the reclusive master Huiming. Yang fights alongside the Kazakh people against invading Qing troops. His path becomes bound up with two women: Hamaya, a tribal warrior known as the Flying Red Scarf, and Nalan Minghui, the daughter of a Manchu general. Loyalty, pride and old enmities pull the three apart and together. The story introduces the Tianshan martial sect and leads directly into the later Tianshan novels.
