Synopsis
Maila is the guardian of the temple of Ekrateia, a clan that prizes excellence and discipline, where she is protected by her Original Dragon, one of the nine Originals of the world's creation. Daughter of a long line of temple guardians, she is destined to protect the Book of Eternity, and what should be an honour becomes a burden: she must be impeccable as a daughter, a guardian and a future wife, and she tries, every day. On the day of her initiation the temple is invaded by rebels, young people who have risen against their own clans, led by Ardan, her childhood friend, who steals fragments of the book. With her dragon, Maila must pursue the rebels across the nine clans to recover what was taken, adapting to new customs and dealing with the conflicting feelings the raid has awoken, while dormant secrets threaten to bring down the order she swore to protect. The flame chooses; the truth burns.
