Synopsis

This opening volume of the Memoirs of Lady Trent introduces Isabella, later known to the world as Lady Trent, recounting in her own retrospective voice how she became one of the foremost dragon naturalists of her age. Set in a Victorian-flavored world where such scholarly ambitions are considered unsuitable for a young woman of her background, the novel follows Isabella's early, consuming passion for the natural history of dragons, a fascination that defies the social conventions expected of a bookish gentlewoman of her station. Her curiosity eventually carries her far from the drawing rooms of her upbringing into the mountainous, politically unstable region of Vystrana, where a scientific expedition to study dragons in the wild exposes her to real danger for the first time.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Memoirs of Lady Trent): A five-book sequence narrated as the memoirs of a fictional Victorian-analogue naturalist who studies dragons; a companion novel set generations later is treated as a separate spin-off, not part of this Core Canon sequence.
