Synopsis

A Study in Drowning, published by Ava Reid in 2023, is a romantic dark academia fantasy drawing on Welsh mythology. Effy Sayre is a young architecture student in the nation of Llyr who has grown up idolizing the work of Emrys Myrddin, the celebrated author of the legendary romance Angharad, and wins a rare opportunity to travel to Myrddin's crumbling family estate to help redesign it. There she is forced into uneasy collaboration with Preston Héloury, a literature student and rival scholar convinced that Myrddin did not actually write Angharad himself, a claim that threatens everything Effy has believed about the author she reveres. As Effy and Preston work together in the decaying house, unraveling clues about the book's true authorship, they are drawn deeper into Myrddin's private legacy and the myths that shaped it.
