Synopsis
A Theory of Dreaming, published by Ava Reid in 2025, continues the story begun in A Study in Drowning. Effy and Preston have returned to the University of Llyr to resume their studies, but their world has been transformed by their earlier discovery that Emrys Myrddin's celebrated novel Angharad was actually written by his wife, Angharad herself, a revelation that has provoked fierce backlash across Llyr's literary and academic establishment. Effy switches from architecture into literature, becoming the first woman admitted to that department, while Preston pursues unsettling new research under the supervision of a scholar named Master Gosse. Both must navigate a hostile university environment and the personal toll of their discovery, all while their nation remains at war with neighboring Argant, a conflict that increasingly presses in on their private struggles.
