Synopsis

A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking is a 2020 young adult fantasy novel by Ursula Vernon, writing as T. Kingfisher. Mona, a teenage baker whose modest magical gift lets her animate and command bread and dough, works quietly in her aunt's bakery, wanting nothing more than to keep baking in peace. That routine is shattered when she discovers a corpse on the bakery floor, an event that draws the attention of the city guard and, soon after, the sinister Inquisitor Oberon, who is hunting wizards over a suspected citywide plot, leaving Mona to prove her innocence while the true killer remains free.
