Synopsis

Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians opens the series in a world secretly dominated by a cult of evil Librarians who control civilization by hoarding and distorting information, following Alcatraz Smedry, a thirteen-year-old who has been shuffled through a long string of foster homes, each placement ending after he inadvertently breaks or destroys something important. After he sets his current foster parents' kitchen on fire, his caseworker Ms. Fletcher arrives to reprimand him, but the following day brings a stranger claiming to be his long-absent grandfather, Leavenworth Smedry, who reveals that Alcatraz's habit of breaking things is in fact a rare magical Talent.

Notes

  • From the series record (Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians): A middle-grade comic-fantasy series about a boy who can deliberately break things, opposing a secret cabal of librarians who suppress fantastical 'Silimatic' technology hidden across the real world. Books 1-5 solely authored by Brandon Sanderson (already known for the Cosmere and the Wheel of Time). No true connection to either of those universes -- a wholly separate, standalone continuity.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
