Synopsis
An Artificial Night is the third novel in the October Daye series. It opens as Toby learns that children, both fae and human, are being taken by Blind Michael, a figure out of faerie legend whose Wild Hunt rides through the Bay Area, and the crisis becomes personal when the young son of one of Toby's closest friends is among the missing. To reach Blind Michael's realm and attempt a rescue, Toby learns she must travel along three magical roads, each of which can be used only once, and the sea witch known as the Luidaeg gives her a protective candle to guide her and ward off the realm's dangers as it slowly burns down. Complicating matters further, Toby's Fetch, a fae double named May who traditionally appears to herald a person's death, arrives unexpectedly at her side.
