Synopsis
Twelve-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl II, heir to a family with generations of criminal enterprise behind it, sets out with his bodyguard and confidant Butler to locate and steal a copy of the fairies' sacred Book, the key to understanding their magic and technology. Having decoded enough of the Book to identify a vulnerable target, Artemis captures LEPrecon Captain Holly Short, an elf officer of the fairies' underground police force, and holds her for a ransom of gold, intending to use the payment to restore his family's fortune after his father's disappearance and his mother's decline. As fairy forces mobilize to recover Holly and stop Artemis, both sides are drawn into an escalating standoff between human cunning and fairy technology.
