Synopsis
A prequel to the earlier books, this novel follows Dirk McDonald before he meets Weetzie. He is raised by his grandmother Fifi and loves the beach, surfing and her 1955 Pontiac convertible. Even so he is unhappy, because he is hiding a secret that he fears will make others stop loving him. He is in love with Pup, his best friend, who will not accept it. One night a magic lamp comes alive and shows Dirk stories of his ancestors, who help him come to terms with who he is and learn that any love that is love is right.
