Synopsis
The eighteenth book of The Legend of the Ice People, published in English as Behind the Facade. Elisabet Paladin has the courage of her convictions and will not be swayed by her mother's constant talk of influential families and a rich husband; no man has ever awakened her interest, until she meets Vemund Tark. But when Vemund comes to speak to her parents about marriage, he is not proposing for himself: he has come on behalf of his younger brother. One of the family saga's volumes set among the descendants of Tengel the Evil, in which romance, family pressure and the clan's inheritance pull against one another.

- From the series record (The Legend of the Ice People): The original 47-volume saga (1982-1989) following the cursed Ice People clan across generations of Scandinavian history, marked by inherited supernatural gifts, a medallion-bound curse, and (in its later volumes) an underground kingdom where time itself runs differently. Two later continuations exist (a further ~35 volumes across two more parts, published years afterward) and are not yet catalogued here pending closer genre review.
