Synopsis
Beasts Made of Night is set in the walled city of Kos, where corrupt mages can magically manifest people's sins as physical creatures called sin-beasts, and indentured child and teenage sin-eaters known as aki are trained to hunt and destroy them, absorbing the sin as a tattoo on their own skin along with the psychological weight of the crime they have consumed. Seventeen-year-old Taj is the most skilled aki in Kos, a talent that drives most of his peers toward madness but that he uses to support his family, even as it isolates him within a society that depends on his work while shunning him for it. When Taj is summoned to consume the sin of a member of the royal family, he is drawn into a dangerous conspiracy at the heart of Kos's government, forcing him to protect both a princess he has come to care for and his own survival.
