Synopsis

Trying to leave his past as a hired killer behind him, Cassel Sharpe attempts to build an honest life despite coming from a family of con artists and curse workers, even as he keeps working uneasily alongside federal agents he does not fully trust while still moving in the criminal circles his family has always relied on. His feelings for Lila, the mobster's daughter he loves but knows he should stay away from, only complicate matters further, especially once she begins drifting deeper into organized crime herself. When his mother becomes a fugitive and unsettling revelations emerge about the people closest to him, the line between what is right and what is merely convenient grows harder for Cassel to see, forcing him to decide what kind of man, and what kind of worker, he actually intends to be.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Curse Workers): A complete trilogy of contemporary curse-magic crime novels (con-artist families whose touch can curse, in an alternate present-day where working curses is illegal), a different setting from both Modern Faerie Tales and Folk of the Air.
