Synopsis
Blood and Chocolate, published in 1997, is set in contemporary Maryland and follows sixteen-year-old Vivian Gandillon, a werewolf living within a tight-knit pack that relocated after a fire destroyed their previous home and exposed their existence to hostile outsiders. Vivian, caught between the pack's expectations that she eventually mate with one of her own kind and her own restless desire for a different kind of life, becomes drawn to Aiden, a human boy unaware of what she truly is. As Vivian navigates the risks of hiding her nature from Aiden while facing pressure from within the pack, including from a rival vying for pack leadership, she must reconcile her dual identity as both a girl falling for an outsider and a werewolf bound to her pack's traditions and territorial dangers.
