Synopsis

Blood of Tyrants continues the Temeraire series after Crucible of Gold, opening as Laurence wakes in Japan with amnesia, unable to recall eight years of his own life, including his bond with Temeraire and his service in the Aerial Corps. Once the two are reunited, they undertake a diplomatic mission alongside envoy Arthur Hammond and Chinese General Chu to secure an alliance between Britain and China against Napoleon, a mission complicated by court intrigue in Peking, where conservative factions plot assassinations, and by a rebellion staged to look like the White Lotus uprising. As Laurence and Temeraire travel onward toward Russia, they learn that Napoleon's long-feared invasion is finally underway, and the pair find themselves pressing deep into Russian territory as supplies run short and the brutal winter of 1812 closes in around them.

Notes

  • From the series record (Temeraire): 9-novel completed historical-fantasy sequence (2006-2016): the Napoleonic Wars in a world where an intelligent-dragon aerial corps supplements every nation's military. One continuous linear narrative; publication order equals in-story order. Unusual debut cadence: the first three novels were all published in 2006 (Del Rey rapid-succession launch).

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
