Synopsis
A standalone Valdemar novel centers on Lavan Firestorm, a young man whose extraordinary and dangerous gift for firestarting has made him the subject of legend throughout the kingdom, both feared and celebrated for a talent he cannot fully control. Taken in and trained by the Heralds, who recognize the danger an unguided Gift of this magnitude poses to himself and to others, Lavan must learn to master his volatile abilities even as rumor and myth continue to grow around his name. The novel sets out to tell the true account behind the legend, following Lavan from the discovery of his powers through his early efforts, under Herald guidance, to bring them under control.
