Synopsis
Dr. Lowell, a respected New York physician, is called in when a man dies in hospital of an illness that doctors cannot explain, leaving no wound or mark on the body. Lowell is drawn into the case by Julian Ricori, a New York gangster whose lieutenant has been struck down in the same way. The trail leads to a doll shop run by Madame Mandilip, an old woman who may be using witchcraft, and to her silent, frightened daughter. As more victims die, the physician and the mobster join forces to find out whether the deaths come from madness or from an evil that reaches people from a distance.
