Synopsis
Caraval opens the trilogy on a remote island where sisters Scarlett and Tella Dragna have spent their lives under the control of their cruel, abusive father. Scarlett has arranged a marriage to a stranger largely as a means of securing safety and escape for herself and her sister, and has waited years for an invitation to Caraval, a legendary, immersive traveling performance where spectators become participants in the unfolding story. When the long-awaited invitation finally arrives, Tella conspires with a charming sailor named Julian to spirit Scarlett away to the game, planning only a brief visit before Scarlett's wedding. Once there, however, Tella is abducted by Legend, Caraval's enigmatic and elusive mastermind, and Scarlett learns she must play through five nights of the game to win her sister back and claim a wish of her own.
