Synopsis
In Tierra del Sol, a land inspired by Aztec and Mexican folklore, people fear the criaturas, magical creatures that prey on humans. As a child, Cece Rios meets a shape-shifting criatura who seems kind, and the townsfolk's anger over the meeting stays with her. At twelve, she faces El Sombrerón, the Bride Stealer, whose enchanted guitar bewitches young women, when he carries off her sister, Juana. To reach Devil's Alley, where he lives, Cece enters the Bruja Fights, a contest for aspiring dark witches, planning to pass as one without becoming one. She must break her community's rules, learn forbidden magic, and rely on a criatura ally named Coyote to bring Juana home.
