Synopsis
City of Glass finds Clary Fray traveling to Idris, the hidden homeland of the Shadowhunters, in defiance of the rules that normally keep outsiders like her away, determined to find a way to save her mother from the magically induced coma inflicted in the earlier books. She is joined by her best friend Simon, recently turned into a vampire, whose presence in Idris creates its own complications within the city of Alicante. There Clary comes into direct contact with Shadowhunter leadership and its political tensions while Valentine Morgenstern, her father, presses ahead with a plan to use the artifacts known as the Mortal Instruments against both Shadowhunters and Downworlders alike. As the community mobilizes against Valentine's threat, Clary must navigate old loyalties and new dangers while trying to protect the people closest to her.
