Synopsis
Set in Victorian London, this opening volume of The Infernal Devices follows sixteen-year-old orphan Tessa Gray, who crosses the Atlantic to find her missing brother Nate only to be captured by the sinister Dark Sisters, who reveal that she possesses a strange shapeshifting ability. Rescued by the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, Tessa is drawn into the hidden Shadow World of demon hunters, angels, and Downworlders while continuing her search for Nate. As she settles uneasily into the Institute alongside Shadowhunters Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs, she becomes entangled in a plot by the mysterious Magister, a figure building an army of clockwork automatons, and finds herself caught between loyalty, danger, and her growing feelings for the two young men protecting her.
