Synopsis

Cloudbound, published by Fran Wilde in 2016, continues the Bone Universe trilogy after Updraft, returning to the city of living bone towers and its network of Singers, traders, and citizens navigating the skies on handmade wings. With the revelations and upheaval of the first book still reshaping how the city's institutions function, a new generation of characters must grapple with the consequences of what was uncovered about the Singers and the systems the city has long depended on for order and protection. As old certainties about who can be trusted continue to erode, the city's inhabitants are forced to reckon with a changed balance of power among traders, Singers, and ordinary citizens still adjusting to a city no longer able to rely on the assumptions that shaped it before.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Bone Universe): A complete trilogy set in a sky-city of towers grown from living bone, where citizens fly on artificial wings; a coming-of-age story that widens into political and ecological upheaval across the 3 books. Fran Wilde's separate 'Gem Universe' (The Jewel and Her Lapidary and its sequels) is a distinct, unrelated setting by the same author and is not covered by this admission.
