Synopsis
The third anthology of Valdemar short fiction, edited by Mercedes Lackey, brings together sixteen stories and novellas centered on the kingdom's Heralds and their horse-like Companions. Lackey contributes an original novella, "Landscape of the Imagination," while other established fantasy writers, including Mickey Zucker Reichert, Judith Tarr, Tanya Huff, Michael Longcor, Nancy Asire, Richard Lee Byers, and Brenda Cooper, add their own tales. Several entries continue ongoing miniseries from earlier anthologies, such as stories following the Gryphon Kelvren, the Selden investigators, and Herald Jors, while others venture into the neighboring land of Karse or revisit established figures like Tarma and Kethry. The result is another wide-ranging collection of adventures and character pieces rather than one continuous plot, adding further depth to Valdemar's history and surrounding regions.
