Synopsis
The second Valdemar short-story anthology gathers thirteen original tales by multiple authors, including Tanya Huff, Michelle West, Mickey Zucker Reichert, Judith Tarr, and Fiona Patton, alongside an original novella by series creator Mercedes Lackey. That novella tells the long-awaited story of how Talia became a Priest of the Sun. The surrounding stories explore how individual gifts and choices can bring peace between nations that have been enemies for centuries, why hardship can serve as instruction for those with empathic abilities, and how a character can embody the values of a Herald without ever being formally Chosen. As with the other anthologies, the collection is not a single continuous narrative but a set of independent adventures and character studies that broaden the reader's view of Valdemar's people, magic, and history.
