Synopsis
Cube, a young woman, wishes for beauty and is sent on a journey spanning Xanth, the parallel realm of Phaze, and the nonmagical world, eventually reaching a mirror-realm called Counter-Xanth where things are inverted. Gathering companions along the way, she pursues her wish while the story turns toward questions of inner worth rather than appearance alone. The title puns on cube root, since the book is Xanth's twenty-seventh, and 27 is 3 cubed.
