Synopsis

This opening volume of The Wars of Light and Shadow introduces half-brothers Lysaer and Arithon, raised apart in mutual hostility, who are thrown together when they are cast through a Worldsend Gate onto the ancient world of Athera, the homeland of their ancestors. They find Athera's skies smothered by choking fog conjured by the malevolent Mistwraith, and the Fellowship of Seven, a group of sorcerers sworn to the world's defense, recruits the two brothers to help drive the fog back. Setting aside their long enmity, Lysaer and Arithon combine their opposing gifts of light and shadow to trap the Mistwraith, but the creature escapes total destruction and, in retaliation, curses both brothers at Arithon's coronation as High King with an irrational, undying hatred of one another.
